Career Highlights
Colin McColl is one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed theatre directors and has served as Artistic Director of Auckland Theatre Company since 2003. A co-founder of Taki Rua Theatre and former Artistic Director of Downstage Theatre, he has played a pivotal role in shaping contemporary New Zealand theatre. His directing work has been presented internationally, including at the Edinburgh Festival, Oslo’s Ibsen Festival, London’s Covent Garden Festival, and the Sydney Festival, and he has directed for the Norwegian and Dutch National Theatres. His acclaimed productions include "Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", "Anne Boleyn", "The Crucible", "Waiting for Godot", "Uncle Vanya", and "A Midsummer Night’s Dream." A multi-award-winning director, Colin was honoured with an Arts Foundation Laureate Award in 2007 and appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in 2010 for services to theatre.
