David had already established himself as an accomplished actor before he began directing. In the past 20 years, he has acted in a number of notable screen productions across New Zealand, Australia, and the US, and his experience has made him a great actor’s director. David started directing his own projects, before he began shadowing directors, and was given scenes, then days and eventually full blocks. He has already been nominated for Best Director at the New Zealand Television Awards, for Alibi, a crime-series he co-created with Hannah Marshall. David has a photographers’ eye for framing and inventive shots, and he has already crafted a visual style. He has shown he doesn’t just shoot his own material, but he adapts to a show’s style, while bringing his own flare. He’s proven he can work with big budgets, such as on the wildly popular Kiwi drama Westside, and small budgets, with his own Alibi, as well as in fast turn around television. However, David’s biggest asset is the relationships he forms on set.
