Profile
Māori Storyteller & Cultural Ambassador
Story-teller, TV presenter and producer Tāmati Rimene-Sproat (Ngāti Hāmua, Ngāti Hinewaka) is a relaxed and dynamic personality who lives and breathes Tīkanga Māori. Raised within the richness of kōhanga reo and kura kaupapa, Tāmati’s craft has long elevated Māoridom—the spirited personality first presented on Māori kids show Pūkana at just nine years old. Fast-forward to 2023, Tāmati is a familiar face on Kiwi television, known for presenting popular news and current events shows like Seven Sharp, Te Karere and Sunday. Lauded for his cultural mahi, Rimene-Sproat explores Te Ao Māori on wildly popular series’ Wild Kai Legends, Moko The World and Hongi to Hāngī— a production that saw him take home Best Television Presenter at the 2022 New Zealand Television Awards. Fluent, eloquent and engaging in both English and reo, Tāmati lends his mana to every project he’s involved in, adding a cultural integrity, credibility and spirit that can’t be replicated.
