Roy is a veteran actor, who has worked extensively in theatre, film and television for over 40 years throughout Australia and New Zealand. An award-winner many times over, Roy is the recipient of an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Leader Actor in a TV Drama for Underbelly II, where his performance also earned him a nomination for a Silver Logie Award for Most Outstanding Actor. Roy has also won a NZ Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in Old Score, and an NZ TV Feltex Award for Best Actor for Inside Straight. Roy is a consistent and outspoken campaigner for the film industry and spent many years as an Ambassador for the Australian Screen Association. In 2010 Roy received the prestigious Educator of the Year Award from the Motion Picture Association Asia-Pacfic. In 2015 he was honored with the Order of Australia Medal for his services to performing arts and the community.

He has been an MC for charity functions and speaks amusingly on the highlight of his career and his personal stories and insights accumulated from his years of being an actor. Roy discusses the people he has worked with and how his job has taken him to some fascinating places such as New York straight after the 9/11 terror attack. In particular, Roy explains how being an actor can slip over to real life, especially when playing notorious Australian criminal Bob Trimbole in Underbelly (which has led to real life recognition from cops and criminals alike!).
