After graduating from Toi Whakaari – NZ Drama School, Emmett Skilton landed a break-out television role as the lead character of ‘Axl’ in three seasons of the popular New Zealand fantasy series The Almighty Johnsons. But thanks to a love of performance and improvisation, Emmett’s acting career, in fact, began during his high school years with a role on the Kiwi comedy series Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby.
On television, Emmett’s latest roles include the TVNZ true life telefeature Ablaze, Shortland Street and upcoming Canadian-NZ co-production drama series The Sounds. He has also featured in a number of US productions, including Murder is Forever, AMC’s The Making of the Mob: Chicago and Amazon’s American Playboy: the Hugh Heffner Story.
Skilton’s big screen credits include the role of a Dragon Pilot in the yet-to-be released Avatar sequels., US feature films the Last Train and Bella, as well as the Chinese feature film Into the Rainbow.
In recent years, Emmett has developed his passion for writing and directing and has been a regular director on the perennially popular New Zealand drama series Shortland Street. In addition, Emmett has co-created the award-winning comedy web-series, Auckward Love, which boasts honest comedic content by women, for women, as well as writing and directing the innovative Instagram comedy series Millennial Jenny.
